Ubisoft France Staff Protest Over Office Return and Pay Issues

Ubisoft France is facing a challenging time as a union has called for a strike over a return-to-office order and salary disputes. The Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo (STJV) has stated that Ubisoft's management imposed a three-day-a-week office return without proper justification or consultation. Many employees have adapted to remote work over the past five years and find it difficult to revert to previous working conditions.

Reasons Behind the Strike

The STJV highlighted that the return-to-office order followed failed negotiations on profit-sharing. According to the union, management's proposals were unacceptable, and the negotiation process was poorly handled. This led to a call for a strike from October 15 to 17.

Ubisoft has not commented on the situation.

Union Demands

The STJV has put forward several demands, including:

  • A formal agreement on remote work
  • Restoration of profit-sharing to 60%
  • Ending the gender pay gap
  • Significant increases in low salaries

The union emphasized that good games result from good working conditions and urged all Ubisoft employees to mobilize.

Previous Strikes and Current Context

This isn't the first time the STJV has organized a strike at Ubisoft France. In February, around 700 employees went on strike in cities like Paris, Montpellier, Annecy, Lyon, and Bordeaux, demanding better salaries.

The new strike comes at a tough time for Ubisoft. The company recently launched an internal investigation supervised by the board. Additionally, the game "Star Wars Outlaws" didn't meet sales expectations, and "Assassin's Creed Shadows" has been delayed to 2025.

Ubisoft has also decided to release its PC games on Steam from day one, stepping away from exclusivity on the Epic Games Store.

Investor Concerns

Earlier this month, a minority investor suggested that Ubisoft should go private due to the falling stock prices caused by disappointing sales of "Star Wars Outlaws."
