Miyazaki admitted his struggle in an interview with The Guardian about the upcoming DLC and the future of FromSoftware.

"I want to preface this by saying I absolutely suck at video games," Miyazaki confessed.

This is ironic considering the games he and FromSoftware are known for their difficulty.

He reveals that once he develops a game, he typically doesn't pick it up as a player.

But ahead of "Shadow of the Erdtree," he forced himself through Elden Ring.

But if Miyazaki struggles so much, how did he get through Elden Ring?

"My approach was to use everything at my disposal," he says.

He used all the assistance and every scrap of aid the game offers, plus his knowledge as the game's architect.

While his developer insight doesn't apply to other players, Miyazaki's play style offers great lessons for anyone hitting a wall in Elden Ring.

It's okay to use something if the game provides it.

Elden Ring takes the Soulslike formula and opens it up with a sprawling world players can explore at their own pace.

This lowered the barrier of entry and made the game more accessible.

For some, the open design and mechanics like Spirit Ashes, which let you summon NPC aid, took away from the need to "git gud."

Some players accused others of not playing the right way or playing on easy mode.

But with Miyazaki using those aids, it's clear that the right way to play is any way you want.

The "git gud" argument is nonsense.

Miyazaki and the developers at FromSoftware created every system to support players in overcoming challenges.

There is nothing wrong with using them.

This applies to "Shadow of the Erdtree" as well.

Summon as many coop players and Spirit Ashes as you need to defeat enemies.

Just remember, it's what Miyazaki would do.
