Konami aims for smoother release with Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2
Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is in development. The launch of this collection is expected to be challenging.
The director of Metal Gear promotions, Jiro Oishi, and producer Noriaki Okamura discussed their plans in a recent episode of Production Hotline.
Learning from Past Mistakes
During a FAQ session, Okamura mentioned that creating modern versions of recent titles is no easy task. He emphasized that they have learned from the issues faced during the launch of Vol. 1.
PC players, for example, criticized the lack of display options and the imposed 720p resolution. These issues led to mixed reviews on Steam, although the situation has since improved.
Okamura assured that they are working hard to avoid repeating the same mistakes. He asked for patience, as remastering newer episodes will take time.
Challenges Ahead
Unlike the first collection, which had existing HD ports of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3, the newer episodes will need to be remastered from scratch. This will naturally take longer.
"We had HD ports of MGS 2 to build on, but that's not the case for the later episodes," said Okamura. "These are big titles that we need to start from zero."
What to Expect
Okamura did not confirm if the new compilation will include the highly anticipated port of Metal Gear Solid 4. He stated that more information will be revealed when the team is ready.
Fans are already speculating about which games will be included. Strong evidence suggests that Metal Gear Solid 4, 5, and Peace Walker will be part of the collection. Konami has hinted at this several times since last October.
In the Meantime
While waiting for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, fans can look forward to the remake of MGS 3 titled Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. That's already great news!
