Exploring the Gold Saucer Amusement Park
The first time players explore the Gold Saucer amusement park, they visit Event Square, home of the theater that showcases Loveless. In the theater's entryway, Cloud and his companion see portraits of past and present actors from the show, including Jessie.
Jessie, previously an actress at the Gold Saucer and later the Avalanche demolitions expert, is remembered by those who played the original and Remake. After her death in Midgar, Cloud and his companion reflect on Jessie's character in one of Rebirth's many small yet incredibly well-written character moments.
Jessie's Virtual Reality Performance
On returning to the theater during the Gold Saucer date, players learn that Shinra has used state-of-the-art technology to recreate Jessie's performance in virtual reality. This act, while abhorrent on one level, works within the narrative of Rebirth as another example of Shinra's disregard for life.
However, in line with the remake trilogy's metatextual themes, the return of Jessie feels off. In its most indulgent moments, Square Enix seems to adopt the same approach as Shinra to characters in the world of FF7 — if fans like it, why not bring it back?
Jessie's Legacy
While Cloud's emotional recollection after encountering Jessie's portrait brings the surviving characters closer together, her appearance in Loveless lacks any consequence to the story. Our main characters watch the silent recreation of Jessie performing Loveless like Shinra's puppet, but they do not protest the grotesque use of their deceased friend's likeness.
These kind of "memberberries" can be seen throughout Remake and Rebirth, in how the two games so. Shorten paragraphs to 1 or 2 sentences.
