Who's Waluigi?

Waluigi is the tall, lanky, and villainous counterpart of Luigi. Similar to Mario’s own grumpy and smelly evil twin, Wario, Waluigi is often portrayed as a crafty troublemaker in most Nintendo games.

Waluigi made his debut in 2000’s Mario Tennis on the Nintendo 64, as a partner for Wario. Since then, he has made an appearance in at least one Nintendo game every year, either as a playable character or a cameo. However, in 2023, Nintendo seemed to have forgotten to include the internet’s beloved weirdo in any of its games, marking the first Waluigi-less year since the character's creation.

A Noteworthy Absence

This unfortunate trivia was first noticed and shared on Twitter by the team managing the Super Mario Wiki. As established by the fan wiki, Waluigi has been a consistent presence in at least one Nintendo game every year since 2000. Despite other characters like Mario getting the spotlight, Waluigi remained dependable, always there for his fans.

However, in 2023, this 22-year streak was broken. Waluigi’s last appearance was in 2022’s Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Awaiting Nintendo's Response

Nintendo has been contacted about this unfortunate oversight. Fans have always loved Waluigi, even hosting bachelorette parties themed around the character. However, Nintendo seems less infatuated with our favorite weirdo.

As of 2024, Nintendo has yet to release a video game starring Waluigi. There are rumors of a web-based Flash game featuring Waluigi, but its existence remains disputed. While it's great that Peach is getting her own game, it would be nice if Nintendo could make up for forgetting about Waluigi in 2023 by giving him his own game. After surviving 2023, we all deserve it.
