Jonathan Nolan's statement sparked speculation among gamers that the TV show might replace the official Fallout 5 game from Bethesda. However, Bethesda has already hinted at the existence of Fallout 5 and its release after the next Elder Scrolls game, which is still quite a few years away.

Fallout fans should feel fortunate to have anything resembling Fallout 5 while waiting for the next game's release.

Nolan clarified that the Fallout show is not replacing the next game and is steering clear of it. In an interaction with Den Of Geek at SXSW 2024, Nolan confirmed that the show, set about a decade after Fallout 4 (2287), is a unique story informed by game series’ director Todd Howard's guidelines.

Howard revealed that he has shared details of Fallout 5’s storyline with the show’s creators, declaring, “we are going to do that in Fallout 5”.

With this in mind, co-showrunner Graham Wagner humorously stated that they had instead created “Fallout 6.” The show does fit into the Fallout universe and timeline, but it won't interfere with any future games, which we won't see for another decade.

So, for now, enjoy the show and the much-improved Fallout 76.
