Spyro Joins the Battle in Crash Team Rumble

Crash Team Rumble was a hit for me, a sentiment I've shared on this platform following its release in June. The addition of Spyro, a classic character from the original PlayStation platformer, to the roster makes me long for a new Spyro the Dragon game.

Spyro's Debut in Crash Team Rumble
Spyro is set to join the dynamic team of Crash, Catbat, and others in Crash Team Rumble in its third season, All Fired Up, launching on December 7. Spyro, along with Ripto and Elora from the original trilogy, will be guest characters. It's interesting to note the trend of Spyro crossover characters, music, and cosmetics appearing in Crash Team Rumble for two consecutive seasons.
Rumors of a New Spyro Game
There's hope that this trend is not just a marketing gimmick but a hint towards a major Spyro announcement from publisher Activision. Rumors of a new Spyro game have been circulating on platforms like Reddit, although specifics such as an October reveal and artist Nicholas Kole's involvement have been debunked.
The Revival of Crash Bandicoot
While Crash Team Rumble may not be the game fans were hoping for, Activision has been heavily investing in Crash Bandicoot since its soft reboot with the Crash N. Sane Trilogy in 2017. This was followed by Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled in 2019 and the brand-new platformer, Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, in 2020.
Spyro's Limited Appearances
Contrastingly, Spyro the Dragon has been receiving less attention in this wave of OG PlayStation platformer remakes. The last original Spyro game was released 15 years ago, with the dragon mostly making cameo appearances in Crash Bandicoot games.
The Future of Spyro
As someone who grew up playing these games, I would still play a Spyro or Sly Cooper game in 2023. Despite the trend of references and crossovers in current games, it rarely leads to a new game. Spyro has been a recurring character in Crash's adventures for years, and it's about time he gets his own game.
