Mastering Communication in Relationships through Gaming
Effective communication and quality time together are vital for a healthy relationship. My partner and I, having been together for nine years, have grown quite adept at these. We believed that nothing could shake our relationship, until we played the two-player narrative game, A Way Out.
The events that unfolded during the seven-hour gameplay still haunt us, and I'm surprised it didn't end our relationship.
The Power of A Way Out
A Way Out, developed by Hazelight Studios, is a cooperative third-person action game. It requires two players to solve a series of puzzles and combat encounters in tandem throughout the entire narrative. The game opens with two characters in a prison, Vincent and Leo, planning their escape. Players must decide who will control which character for the rest of the game.
Our Personal Gameplay Experience
Although my partner isn't as avid a gamer as I am, she is no stranger to gaming. She has completed Hades in its entirety and played through every Uncharted game. The cooperative design of A Way Out allowed both of us to feel like we were making significant contributions as we communicated solutions to the puzzles and challenges we faced. However, the game took a surprising turn near the end.
The Unexpected Twist
A Way Out presents a twist in the final moments that completely changes the dynamic of the game. Throughout the game, players watch as Leo and Vincent form a bond, escape prison, and open up about their personal struggles. Then, the game reveals that Vincent is an undercover FBI agent who has been using Leo. This revelation, and the subsequent betrayal, was a shock to my partner and me.
Despite the unexpected twist, we managed to navigate through the emotional turmoil. It's a testament to the strength of our relationship and our communication skills, honed through years of togetherness and gaming.
