Inside the Madness of TwitchCon 2024: Highlights and Surprises
TwitchCon 2024 was a whirlwind of excitement and energy! Held in San Diego, this three-day event brought together Twitch partners, affiliates, and fans. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet big streamers like Hasan Piker, Caroline Kwan, and Will Neff.
Day One: Getting There
At 5 am, I was on my way to the airport for an early flight. I grabbed a mediocre iced latte and worried about my trucker hat, but a Delta flight attendant's laugh reassured me. On the flight, I realized many passengers were also heading to TwitchCon.
Upon arriving in San Diego, it was clear from the outfits that TwitchCon was the main event. The San Diego Convention Center was draped in TwitchCon colors, and the atmosphere was electric. After checking into my hotel, I quickly changed and headed to the convention center to pick up my badge.
Day Two: Stream Starting Soon
I woke up at 4 am due to jet lag and got ready for the day. The convention center was massive, but it wasn't as crowded as other conventions like PAX East or New York Comic Con. This was a refreshing change, allowing for more personal space.
The main floor had a lot to offer:
- Tabletop gaming setups
- An arcade sponsored by Differin
- A Bob Ross paint-along space
- A GFuel booth offering tastings
- The Loot Cave merch store
- A Honda installation for custom dad hats
- A massive meet-and-greet section
- Various installations for streamer gear
Day Three: Mods
Another 4 am wake-up, but this time I hit the gym. After a quick workout and a good cup of coffee, I was ready for a day full of interviews and shows. I chatted with several Twitch executives about inclusivity and safety on the platform.
One of the highlights was meeting Minecraft streamer HannahxxRose. She shared her journey from college to full-time streaming, supported by her family. Her story was truly inspiring.
Day Four: Chat, Am I Alive?
The final day started early again, but I was ready to make the most of it. I had several interviews lined up, including one with Caroline Kwan. We discussed the role of women in gaming and the importance of connecting pop culture and politics.
As the convention came to a close, I reflected on the incredible experiences and connections made. TwitchCon 2024 was a memorable event, and I can't wait for next year!
