The development team, led by director Hashino Katsura, realized that their initial concept was a bit dull. They decided to infuse the game with their signature blend of ordinary and supernatural elements, creating a fresh take on the fantasy genre.

Initially, the team envisioned a high fantasy world filled with elves, dwarves, and other classic elements. However, after reviewing concept art by Shigenori Soejima, they found it lacked uniqueness. They wanted something that stood out, much like their previous works that mix everyday life with the bizarre.
The team decided to change direction, opting for a fantasy world that felt more original and aligned with their vision. Katsura explained that they didn't stray far from their path but rather embraced their style by pursuing what they genuinely wanted to create.
The Unique World of Metaphor
Metaphor still takes place in a fantasy setting, placing players in the Kingdom of Euchronia. The story begins with the assassination of the king, throwing the nation into chaos. Fans of Persona will recognize the familiar style and gameplay, which remains true to the team's roots despite the new setting.
