Dan Houser Reveals New Projects

A New Path for Houser
In early 2020, Houser left his previous company, following the launch of Red Dead Redemption II. In mid-2023, he announced the creation of his new studio, Absurd Ventures. This new venture aims to create diverse multimedia projects, spanning video games, TV, film, and comics.
Collaboration with Industry Veterans
Industry veterans Lazlow Jones and Michael Unsworth, who departed the company after Houser, are also part of Absurd Ventures. The studio has now revealed its first projects, and they are not what you might expect.
Absurd Ventures' Upcoming Projects
Announced recently, Absurd Ventures is currently working on two projects: American Caper and A Better Paradise. Described as "original storytelling universes", the studio plans to introduce characters and stories from these universes in comics and audio dramas, respectively.
American Caper
The first project, American Caper, revolves around two "normal, badly damaged" American families entangled in a world of crime, "corrupt business", and "inept" politicians. The first release in this universe will be a graphic novel, illustrated by comic book artist Simon Bisley.
A Better Paradise
On the other hand, A Better Paradise is an "existential suspense thriller" set in the "near future". The debut project from this universe is a 12-episode "audio fiction series", which is currently in production.
Launch Date and Future Plans
Both the American Caper comic book and the A Better Paradise audio series are scheduled for release in 2024. Houser's company is also working on a "wide range" of other projects, including animation, video games, graphic novels, audio fiction, and more. More details about these new franchises will be announced in the coming months.
