A New Discovery: Gender-Neutral Restrooms in Kitakami
Many players, including myself, stumbled upon this interesting development within the first few minutes of arrival in Kitakami. At the community center where my character was temporarily residing, I found three restrooms. The men's and women's restrooms were marked with the tails of Pikachu, with the male's restroom featuring the flat-edged tail and the female's restroom showing the rounded, heart-shaped tail. Intriguingly, the third restroom was labeled with only a silhouette of Pikachu’s head, and upon inspection, the text clarified that "This restroom can be used by anyone!"
Gender-Neutral Restrooms: A Step Forward in the Pokémon Universe
Although it may seem like a minor detail, this inclusion of gender-neutral restrooms is a significant nod to the existence of queer and non-binary characters within the Pokémon universe. The franchise has previously hinted at queer characters and references, but the presence of these restrooms is a more overt recognition. It's encouraging to see, and it opens up the possibility of future gender-neutral character creation options with diverse pronoun choices for players.
