Latest Update for God of War Ragnarök's Valhalla Expansion

The leading character of God of War, Kratos, is seen in a recent Twitter post by the game's developer, Santa Monica Studio. The latest free expansion for God of War Ragnarök, set in Valhalla, offers an array of difficult challenges and battles. However, the game's difficulty is set to increase with Santa Monica Studio's latest patch that alters the difficulty of certain encounters. On a brighter note, there is one change that might make your early journey in Valhalla a bit less grueling.

God Of War Ragnarök DLC: A Journey Through Valhalla

The Valhalla DLC for Ragnarök, now available as a free add-on for PlayStation consoles, offers a roguelite mode for the 2022 action-adventure game. The game involves navigating through a series of procedurally generated levels, battling new foes, and assisting old allies on a journey of discovery and redemption. However, many of the battles are exceptionally challenging, with Kratos often finding himself defeated. With the release of the new update v. 05.03 on December 15, the Valhalla expansion has become even more challenging.

Increased Difficulty in Valhalla's Arena Challenges

Santa Monica Studio has ramped up the difficulty of "some arena challenges" within Valhalla. The Forum, Valhalla's colosseum that allows you to battle against tougher adversaries, has been adjusted to make its "difficulty more appropriate". The patch notes also mention a specific change related to the Draupnir Spear’s Hind of Deadly Vitality perk – Kratos will now gain less health when successfully killing with it. This could be a disappointment if you were relying on it to survive the more difficult areas.

One Ray of Hope in the Latest Patch

Thankfully, the latest patch has made one aspect of the game easier. If you recall Tyr, the multi-god that Freya and Kratos freed in Ragnarök, you encounter him multiple times as you navigate through Valhalla. Despite being a formidable foe, the latest update v. 05.03 has reduced the difficulty of your first encounter with him. However, this change only applies to the Show Me Will difficulty setting, which unfortunately does not offer any bonus rewards. But at times, choosing an easier battle over increased rewards might be the wiser decision, don't you think?
