Borderlands Movie Update: First Look at the Cast

It's been a while since we had any news about the film adaptation of the popular video game series, Borderlands, featuring stars like Cate Blanchett, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Kevin Hart. Recently, we were given our first glimpse of the cast through some fresh screenshots.

Redfall Gameplay Trailer Reaction

However, the latest gameplay trailer for the hot new game, Redfall, left us feeling a bit cold. You can watch the video and share your thoughts on Facebook, Twitter, Email, Reddit, or via a direct link.

Borderlands Movie: A Long Journey

The Borderlands movie has been a long time in the making. Film studio Lionsgate began plans for the sci-fi looter-shooter franchise's film adaptation back in 2015. After several years of planning and casting, filming finally started in April 2021 and wrapped up in June of the same year.

Following test screenings in January 2023, two weeks of reshoots were ordered. These reshoots were led by Deadpool director, Tim Miller, not Eli Roth, the original director. It's fair to say that the Borderlands movie has had a tumultuous production process.

First Exclusive Screenshots Released

On February 20, the first exclusive screenshots of the upcoming film were revealed. The film is set to hit theaters this August. One image gives us a glimpse of Cate Blanchett as Lillith, a vault hunter armed with weapons and space magic, sporting bright red hair.

The second image is more exciting, showing the main cast looking down a well together. This gives us our first real look at Kevin Hart as Roland, Jack Black as Claptrap, Curtis as Tannis, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, and Florian Munteanu as Krieg, with Blanchett's Lilith joining the gang.

A Borderlands Fan's Perspective

As someone who is a fan of Borderlands, this first look at the movie isn't particularly thrilling. While this is just one image from a larger film, the screenshot gives off a low-budget and clean vibe that feels more like a pre-recorded SNL parody than a big-budget adaptation of a beloved game.

The images remind me of those fan-made posters that pop up online around big movie releases. They look fine, but there's a lack of care that's evident. This first look doesn't inspire much confidence in the finished product.
