Final Fantasy XVI producer urges fans to avoid offensive PC mods
Naoki Yoshida, the producer of Final Fantasy XVI, has requested players not to create "offensive or inappropriate" mods for the game's PC version.
This warning comes as the latest installment in Square Enix's iconic RPG series has just launched on PC.
Yoshida's Statement
In an interview with PC Gamer, Yoshida didn't specify which mods he would like to see in Final Fantasy XVI. However, he was clear about what he didn't want.
"If we said, 'It would be great if someone created mod X, Y, Z,' it might be seen as a request, so I won't say more on that topic," Yoshida explained. "The only thing I ask is not to see anything offensive or inappropriate in the game. So please, don't create or install such mods."
What Are Mods?
Mods allow players to create custom content for games. This can lead to surprising cosmetic changes or exceptional gameplay improvements.

However, some people push the limits, creating offensive or inappropriate mods. Capcom also addressed this issue in November 2023, lamenting the existence of "a number of offensive mods."
Final Fantasy XVI on PC
Despite initial confusion, Final Fantasy XVI is now available on PC. After a period of exclusivity on PlayStation 5, the game finally launched on PC on September 17, 2024.
Yoshida had initially denied the existence of a PC version. However, he later confirmed that the game would be a PS5 exclusive for six months.
Square Enix's Strategy
Poor sales of recent PS5-exclusive titles like Foamstars and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth prompted Square Enix to adopt a more aggressive multiplatform strategy.
Expect more Square Enix titles to release on multiple platforms in the future. Hiroshi Takai, the director of Final Fantasy 16, mentioned that future games in the franchise would likely launch on PC from day one.
