Why Pokemon Go's Sword and Shield Quest Isn't Worth It
Pokémon Go has seen some major updates recently. If you haven't logged in for a while, you might be surprised by the new pink PokéStops, Dynamaxing Pokémon, and the addition of starters from Pokémon Sword and Shield. Now, there's a new Timed Research quest where you can choose between Sword and Shield, running until October 1.
What's New in Pokémon Go?
The latest event, called Legendary Heroes, lets players pick a side and complete a series of tasks. Surprisingly, this event is free. To start, you just need to catch eight Pokémon of any type. This will kick off the quest, beginning with a choice between the Sword Path and the Shield Path.
Tasks and Rewards
The tasks are the same no matter which path you choose:
- Use eight berries
- Power up eight times
- Catch eight Pokémon
- Explore 3km
- Use an incense
- Catch another eight Pokémon
Completing these tasks will earn you encounters with specific Pokémon, some Great and Ultra Balls, and a bit of XP and Stardust.
Path Choices and Pokémon
If you pick the Sword Path, you'll get Koffing, Galarian Darumaka, Deino, and Rufflet. If you choose the Shield Path, you'll receive Koffing, Galarian Ponyta, Larvitar, and Vullaby. Unfortunately, none of these Pokémon are original to Galar, and most can be found in the wild right now.
The path choice also affects the Pokémon you need for a collection challenge. Both paths include the Galarian starters Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. The rest of the Pokémon vary, requiring trades to complete the challenge. The reward for finishing the catch challenge? A Skwovet, which is quite common in the game.
Shiny Zacian and Zamazenta
One exciting aspect of this event is the chance to encounter shiny Zacian for the first time. Zacian will be in 5-star raids, so get ready to grind for that shiny blue dog-lion. Shiny Zamazenta will also be arriving in raids starting October 4 with the Galarian Expedition, along with another 8 Master Ball research task.
