Although Fairy Tail 2 does not directly inherit mechanics from Gust's other games like Atelier or Nights Of Azure, the experience gained from these titles influences the new game. The sequel maintains strategic elements, such as elemental affinities and chain skills, while emphasizing action and combos.

Fairy Tail 2 allows players to switch characters freely during exploration and battles. Some sections require specific team compositions, but the game provides flexibility to enjoy the rich roster.
