Cheaters in Deadlock Are Facing Epic Consequences
Cheating in online games has been a scourge since time immemorial, but developers are always finding new ways to deal with it. Deadlock, the Valve hero shooter quietly taking over Steam in its closed beta, is the latest multiplayer game to innovate in this area. The game allows innocent players to turn their cheating opponents into frogs.
Deadlock's Unique Anti-Cheat System
Deadlock's community has already encountered cheaters among its early beta invitees. However, the game is still in an experimental phase, receiving regular updates and balance changes. The latest patch introduces a novel anti-cheat detection system.
When a user is detected as cheating, opponents can choose between banning the user immediately and ending the match or turning the cheater into a frog for the rest of the game before banning them. This system is currently set to conservative detection levels as the developers work on a more extensive version.
Frog Transformation: A Hilarious Punishment
The anti-cheat magic has already been spotted in the wild. Once a cheater is transformed into a frog, all they can do is hop around helplessly while the other team shoots at them. It's similar to when characters in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth get turned into frogs.
Fortunately, this punishment is not mandatory. Players who are fed up or want to start a new match that will count can decline to humiliate cheaters in this way. It's unclear if there's a voting system for this decision, but it would be interesting to see how a tiebreaker is handled in a 6v6 game.
No Official Release Date Yet
Deadlock still doesn't have a timeline for a full release or even an official open beta. However, those fortunate enough to play it have found it to be a lot of fun, especially for number-crunching RPG enthusiasts. The Dota 2 influence is evident, from the creep waves to the upgrade progression.
As Valve continues testing, Deadlock could become its next big multiplayer success story. We'll have to wait and see how it evolves.
