During much of Starfield's development, the creators at Bethesda planned to give the player character a voice, similar to their previous open-world RPG, Fallout 4. However, the team eventually decided against it, choosing a mostly silent protagonist to allow the vast, galactic setting to take center stage.

Reportedly, Bethesda wanted to avoid giving the character a voice that was too specific. Voiced protagonists in Fallout 4 weren't universally popular, with many players likely favoring a silent protagonist - a tradition in Bethesda's games. Interestingly, despite Bethesda's initial plans to hire an actor for Starfield's protagonist, it was unclear who that might have been.

The Voices Behind the Characters

As it turns out, one of the actors considered was Elias Toufexis, known for voicing Deus Ex prequel series' protagonist Adam Jensen, and now lending his voice to Starfield's Sam Coe. The other actor was Cissy Jones, famous for her role as Delilah in Firewatch, who is now the voice of Andreja in Starfield.

In a recent post, voice actor Elias Toufexis revealed some insights into the early casting decisions for Starfield. According to him, he and Jones were initially cast as the player's protagonist.
