Resident Evil Village, first released on consoles and PC in 2021, may seem like an unusual choice for Apple's new gaming initiative. As someone who enjoyed the original version on PS5, I was eager to try it out on the phone. However, the experience was quite different.

When I first started the game, I was quite impressed. The graphics on mobile devices have been improving over the years, but Village takes it to a whole new level. The game features high-resolution textures, realistic character models, and stunning (and spooky) lighting.
Everything seemed fine in the beginning, but as soon as I entered the village, the game started to falter. Performance became erratic, with the game slowing down when multiple buildings or enemies appeared onscreen. The visual settings offered various sliders similar to a PC port, allowing me to adjust the quality of shadows, model quality, and depth of field options.
Performance Issues
Unfortunately, there was no quick-fix option for those unfamiliar with these settings, who simply want to enjoy the game on their iPhone 15 Pro. Even after lowering the settings and switching to "performance mode", the game continued to lag. The small screen also made inventory management difficult, adding to the frustration.

Overall, while the idea of playing big games like Resident Evil Village on a phone is exciting, the reality may not live up to the hype just yet.
