The Journey of Skull and Bones

Remember 2017? It was the year Ubisoft announced Skull and Bones at the E3 summer event. The game, featuring boat gameplay reminiscent of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, promised to be a massive, pirate-only online adventure.

However, the journey of Skull and Bones has been a long and complicated one, stretching back a decade from its conception, through six delays, and finally, to its open beta arriving in February.

Open Beta Details

In a recent blog post, Ubisoft announced that following a closed beta in December, Skull and Bones will have a large-scale open beta from February 8-11. Players on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 can participate. The game will support crossplay and cross-progression during the test.

Ubisoft is also offering a chest full of rewards that will carry over into the main game for those who participate in the open beta.

First Public Access

While Ubisoft has held a few closed betas in the past, this is the first time they are opening the doors to everyone. This could indicate confidence in the game's readiness for the public or simply a desire to get the game out soon.

Ubisoft also confirmed that all progress made in the Skull and Bones beta will carry into the retail game when it launches on February 16.
