Larian Studios, known for their successful 2023 roleplaying game, Baldur’s Gate 3, declared their departure from the franchise. Studio founder Swen Vincke confirmed the news during a talk at the Game Developers Conference (GDC).

Vincke explained the studio’s position in his GDC talk, stating, “We are a company of big ideas. We are not a company that’s made to create DLCs or expansions. We tried that actually, a few times, and it failed every single time. It’s not our thing. Life is too short, our ambitions are very large. We're going to move on."

Despite the announcement, Baldur’s Gate 3 remains a triumphant chapter in Larian Studios' history. Since its release from Early Access in August 2023, the game has reached over 10 million players and won numerous awards, including Game of the Year at the DICE Awards.
