How to Become a Twitch Affiliate and Make Money

Becoming a Twitch affiliate has emerged as a viable alternative for making money online. Many people wonder how to go about joining the Twitch Affiliate program and start earning income.

In this article, we'll delve into the requirements and process to become a Twitch affiliate, as well as ways to make money on this platform.

Part 1: How to become a Twitch affiliate?

We live in the most incredible era. Technology has made our world so much better and more fun. If you told people that you could earn a part-time salary (and in some cases full-time) by playing video games and making friends, they'd laugh at you.

Before 2017, if you weren't a Twitch partner, monetizing seemed unrealistic. But today, I'm happy to say that the landscape is changing and more people will get paid to play.

There wasn't much sense in relying on small ad revenue streams or subscriptions. These require a certain volume and quality to be effective. It made sense that it was only for partners.

But as Bits (Twitch's internal currency and donation system) matures, Twitch needs more places where people can spend bits. It'll be interesting to see if other requirements are needed for a subscription button.

How can I apply to become a Twitch affiliate?

You can't. Twitch will invite affiliates once the requirements are met. They send them out in batches initially.

What are the requirements to become a Twitch affiliate?

The criteria can change over time as the affiliate program develops. At launch, we will invite non-partner streamers who have:

  1. At least 500 total minutes of broadcast in the last 30 days
  2. At least 7 unique broadcast days in the last 30 days
  3. An average of 3 or more concurrent viewers over the last 30 days
  4. At least 50 followers

So, go to your Twitch dashboard to see if you've reached these goals.

What is a unique broadcast?

This means that the number of concurrent viewers has dropped to almost zero. If you look at your dashboard, it should be clear enough to see unique broadcasts rather than just logging out or coming back after 15 minutes of inactivity.

Bits are now available worldwide and are for sale to first-time buyers. But who cares, we're content creators, not consumers.

Part 2: How can I make money streaming?

The real reason I'm writing this post is that I know the launch of the Twitch affiliate is going to cause a lot more people to hear that you can make money streaming video games.

I want people to have a realistic understanding of what it takes and also have a plan so they stand a real chance of achieving their goal.

Let's review the ways you can actually receive money while you stream.

Ways to make money streaming

Donations - You entertain and people are grateful and want to "tip" you. This is done via PayPal. There's a small commission.

Bits - Twitch's currency used to "tip" and "cheer" streamers.

Subscriptions - People can get special perks as subscribers and pay $4 per month, you get $2 per month they are subscribed to your Twitch channel.

Affiliate Sales - You can have banners on your channel and send traffic to websites where you get commissions. Many Twitch affiliate streamers use Amazon and G2A (now disapproved).

Sponsorships - Similar to affiliates but work directly with brands to help them grow their brand awareness.

Patreon - Or another off-site subscription for paid content.

The reality of the platform... It's competitive.

Now, let's just look at one other thing... In 2015, there was a monthly record number of broadcasters of 2.1 million. That's a lot of damn streamers on one platform. And that was 2 years ago! Nothing compares.

During that same period, there were 13,476 partners. Less than 1% were even earning a part-time income. Not all partners make a lot of money. So, be realistic, gaining Twitch affiliate status won't change most people's lives.

That might mean a little over $50 per week in bits. Donations will remain low volume in streams with less than 100 people. At this stage, it's unclear if affiliates will get a 50% share of subscription revenue.

It's not yet set up. I just want people to be realistic. Don't come into my inbox saying they want to start streaming, haven't done a single thing, and expect to make money in the short term. Impossible.

Here's how you make money on Twitch.

If you're a Twitch streamer, you know that it’s not easy to make money. That's why more and more streamers are looking for additional ways to make money with their Twitch channel. Fortunately, Twitch offers streamers a variety of options to make money. One of these options is to become a Twitch affiliate.

Twitch affiliates are streamers who have reached a certain number of followers, views, and broadcast time and have been authorized to receive rewards and commissions for their work.

The first step to becoming a Twitch affiliate is to reach a certain number of followers and grow your community, views, and broadcast time. To become a Twitch affiliate, you need to have at least 50 followers, have broadcast at least 500 minutes of broadcasting in the last 14 days, and have accumulated at least 7 days of broadcasting in the last 30 days.

Once you've reached these thresholds, you can apply to become a Twitch affiliate. Once your application has been accepted, you are officially a Twitch affiliate.

As a Twitch affiliate, you have several options to make money. The first and most obvious is to receive donations from your fans.

Fans can send donations to your channel via various payment platforms, allowing you to make money directly from your channel. You can also make money by streaming ads on your channel. You will receive payments for each ad broadcast.

Finally, you can make money through affiliation. Twitch affiliates can get commissions for purchases made on the Twitch store. You can also promote products and services on your channel using affiliate links.

Each time a fan buys a product or service through your link, you will receive a commission.

As a Twitch affiliate, you have the power to earn extra money from various sources. You can receive donations, stream ads, and get commissions through affiliation. Use these methods to earn more money with your Twitch channel and to improve your experience as a streamer.
