Exploring the World of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

I've been delving into the world of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, enjoying the vast open landscapes, yet missing the guided structure of the FF7 Remake's Midgar. However, after about 45 hours of gameplay, I found myself in Gongaga, a labyrinthine jungle region filled with mushrooms and towering trees, and began to rethink my plan to fully explore every open-world area in FF7 Rebirth.

Key Takeaways from the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo

Here are three essential things we learned from the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Demo. You can share this video on various platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Email, Reddit, or directly through a link.

A Brief Introduction

For those who don't know me, I'm Zack Zwiezen. I'm not a Final Fantasy enthusiast, having only completed FF7 Remake and the Crisis Core remaster. However, I enjoyed both games and was eager to play Rebirth and see what unfolds for the beloved characters.

Expectations for Rebirth

Rebirth, unlike Remake, promised to be a much larger game with expansive open-world areas that I couldn't ignore. Given my inclination to complete all tasks in such games and the lure of rewards and XP, I decided to do almost everything in it, knowing this would likely be my only playthrough.

Initial Gameplay Experience

For the first 40 hours or so, I had no regrets about exploring every region. Despite some less-than-exciting open-world activities and mini-games, the overall experience remained enjoyable.

The Challenge of Gongaga

However, reaching Gongaga tested my resolve to collect all the world intel in each region. Gongaga was a frustrating, unenjoyable experience, with overlapping pathways, trails, caves, and trees.

Disappointment with Gongaga Region OST in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

To add to the frustration, Gongaga had the most disappointing music of all regions so far, playing on loop and sounding like it was taken from a Civilization 3 menu. The annoyance was compounded by having to navigate a multi-tiered forest maze while listening to the repetitive soundtrack.

The Bane of Bouncy Mushrooms

What made it worse was the necessity to use giant bouncy mushrooms to traverse the map. These mushrooms didn't indicate where you'd land, and unlike in Cosmo Canyon, you had no control over your Chocobo mid-flight. Often, you'd land in an undesirable location.

Map Use in Gongaga

Using the map in Gongaga was another challenge. It was almost impossible to rely on the map, and often, finding the right mushroom took too long as you searched for a path through the dense forest.
