Baldur’s Gate 3 by the renowned developer Larian Studios is set to have official mod support for both PC and consoles. The feature is expected to roll out by 2024. Meanwhile, the studio has addressed some impatient fans and highlighted the issue of threats and toxicity within the game's community.

On February 25, Michael Douse, Larian's director of publishing, used his social media platform to address those who have been harassing the development team. He urged them to cease this behavior.

Douse revealed that they will soon be discussing in depth what their mod support will look like. He mentioned that they have been working on it since the game's launch and will discuss it in their own way with their community.

He further explained that the unexpected growth of Baldur’s Gate 3 has made community moderation and communication more challenging. Maintaining dialogue with the players takes time and patience.

Douse praised the majority of their community, stating that 99.9% are the absolute best. He acknowledged that with a large community, a few bad eggs are inevitable. He urged fans not to get angry at mod authors, support teams, community or developers and to focus on the future.

If the toxic behavior continues, the community team may have to distance themselves from fans. This would be a significant change in their approach since the game's Early Access period and its launch in August 2023.

The growth of Baldur’s Gate 3 into a cultural phenomenon has inevitably attracted some members lacking in social decorum. Douse expressed hope that his statements would help address the issue and allow the developers to withdraw if needed for their own mental health.
