Nintendo Introduces Adult Gaming on Switch

Nintendo's Adult-Only NSO App

According to an official video released by Nintendo Japan, the company is launching an adults-only NSO app to release Nintendo 64 games. The app will initially feature two specific games, the 1997 spy-shooter GoldenEye 007 and the 1999 space-shooter Jet Force Gemini. These games are rated “T” in the U.S., but in Japan, they carry a “Z” rating, indicating they are for “18-year-olds and above only.”

GoldenEye 007 is already available through Nintendo’s subscription service in the U.S., and Jet Force Gemini is coming soon. Both games are rated “T” in the U.S., indicating that there were likely no governmental regulatory hurdles for their release in the U.S. However, in Japan, Z-rated entertainment is the only legally restricted rating, thus the need for an “adults-only” NSO app for their release.

Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo Switch Online has been operational for five years, since its debut in September 2018. For a small fee, users get access to online functionality and an ever-growing library of Game Boy, NES, and SNES games. The service has since grown to include Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, and Sega Genesis games with the upgraded Expansion Pack tier.
