Everything You Need to Know About Dragon Age: The Veilguard's Companions

BioWare has changed the title of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf to Dragon Age: The Veilguard to better represent its story.

This new name refers to your party as a whole, and the characters who make it up were the stars of the new cinematic trailer shown at the Xbox Games Showcase.

If you're a Dragon Age diehard, you might recognize some of these characters from books, comics, and past games.

BioWare updated fans on the game's voice cast, so we know what they probably sound like.

Here's what we know about Dragon Age: The Veilguard's party:

Rook the Leader

The Veilguard will feature a new protagonist named Rook, recruited by returning companion Varric Tethras to stop the elven god Solas from possibly destroying the world.

Players can customize Rook to be a human, elf, dwarf, or qunari, and determine their faction in the world of Dragon Age.

Voice options include:

  • Alex Jordan
  • Bryony Corrigan
  • Erika Ishii
  • Jeff Berg

Harding the Scout

Scout Lace Harding is a dwarven rogue who played a pivotal role in Dragon Age: Inquisition. She has a big heart, a positive outlook, and a ready bow.

Harding will have unexpected magical powers in this sequel.

Voiced by Ali Hillis, known for her role as Liara T'Soni in the Mass Effect series.

Neve the Detective

Neve is a human mage detective from the Tevinter capital Minrathous. She investigates the extremist mage faction called the Venatori.

Neve is part of the Shadow Dragons faction that fights to end slavery in Tevinter.

Voiced by Jessica Clark, making her video game debut.

Lucanis the Mage Killer

Lucanis Dellamorte is a human rogue working with the Antivan Crows, an assassins organization.

Lucanis is presumed dead by the Crows but clearly survives.

Voiced by Zach Mendez, known for his role in Horizon Forbidden West.

Bellara the Veil Jumper

Bellara is an elven rogue and a newcomer in The Veilguard. She is part of a group introduced in The Missing comics to protect the Arlathan Forest.

Voiced by Jee Young Han, known for her roles in Perry Mason and Unprisoned.

Emmrich the Necromancer

Emmrich is a human Tevinter mage and a master of the dark arts of life and death. He has a skeleton assistant named Manfred.

Voiced by Nick Boraine, with Matthew Mercer voicing Manfred.

Davrin the Warden

Davrin is a member of the Grey Wardens, the Darkspawn-killing order. He is bold, charming, and a notable monster hunter.

Voiced by Ike Amadi, known for his role as Javik in the Mass Effect trilogy.

Taash the Dragon Hunter

Taash is a Qunari companion and an adventurous fighter willing to take on dragons by herself.

Voiced by Jin Maley, known for roles in Star Trek: Picard and Total Eclipse.

Varric the Storyteller

Varric, a fan-favorite companion from Dragon Age II and Inquisition, appears to be in a leadership role in The Veilguard.

Voiced by Brian Bloom, reprising his role.

That's what we know about this new crew so far. Whether they live up to the highs of past games remains to be seen.

After ten years, fans are eager to see BioWare rise to the occasion.
