Controversial 'Groot' Skin in Modern Warfare III to be Removed

However, this popular cosmetic in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III game has recently been under fire, leading to its upcoming removal.

Community Backlash Over Visual Issues

Players have voiced their concerns over visual issues with the purchasable 'Groot' skin, leading to widespread community backlash.

Earlier this month, the frustration among Modern Warfare III players escalated over a skin that was first introduced in 2022’s Modern Warfare II.

The 'Groot' Skin Controversy

The Gaia skin, a cosmetic unlockable for the operator Nila “Nova” Brown, was labelled as “literally invisible” due to its colors and textures which bear an uncanny resemblance to Marvel’s Groot.

Following incessant requests from players for the developer, Sledgehammer Games, to remove the skin on various platforms, the studio has finally responded.

Sledgehammer Games Responds to Player Feedback

During a recent Reddit AMA, the studio announced that an upcoming update will temporarily remove the cosmetic.

“Adjustments to Gaia and Gaia Blackcell Operator Skins are in the pipeline for Modern Warfare III,” the studio said in response to a fan. “In a future game update, we’ll disable this item until said changes can be released to all players.”

The Future of the 'Groot' Skin

While it is yet unclear how Sledgehammer Games plans to modify the Groot skin or when the “future” update will be released, it is likely that the team will make it more visible in-game.

The current difficulty in spotting someone wearing the skin in a match, due to its blend of brown, green, and red colors, and translucent, branch-like limbs, has led to the community labelling it as both “broken” and “pay-to-win.”
