Bowser's Aerial Assault in the Flower Kingdom
In the vibrant world of the Flower Kingdom, Bowser takes the aerial route to challenge Mario and his companions. The Super Mario series has always been a solitary experience, offering players a chance to immerse themselves in a whimsical world. However, the chaos that ensues when playing Super Mario 3D World with friends has become a shared experience among many.
Exploring Super Mario Bros. Wonder Solo
If you've decided to take on Super Mario Bros. Wonder solo, we recommend trying out the new 2D platformer's online mode before dismissing it entirely. Playing Wonder online allows you to enjoy the levels with other players, but without the potential disruption. This online co-op mode allows you to help each other out by reviving each other if someone dies in a level, rather than having to start back at the last checkpoint.
The Ghostly Afterlife of Online Play
When playing online, dying transforms you into a ghost for a brief period. This could be the result of falling off the level, being on the receiving end of one of Bowser's flamethrowers, or an unfortunate encounter with a Goomba's shoe. Instead of instantly being sent to an early grave, you're given a short window of time to float around the level as a ghost and potentially reach another player or one of their placed standees, who can revive you just by making contact.
Perks of Online Co-op Play
Apart from saving you the time of being sent back to an earlier point, there's another hidden perk: if you're having trouble with a particular section, you can float past obstacles to another player who's ahead of you, and skip the challenging bit. For those who prefer the challenge of getting through the level on your own, you can simply "give up" as soon as you turn into a ghost and return to the previous checkpoint. But having other players around is still beneficial, as some secrets are only visible to certain characters.
Unveiling Secrets with Character-Specific Blocks
In Super Mario Bros. Wonder, you'll find blocks labeled for specific characters, with an M for Mario, an L for Luigi, and so on. These are only visible to the applicable character. You can still find them and their secrets as other heroes, but you'll have to stumble upon them by chance, jumping and butt-stomping empty space hoping you happen upon them. Having others going through the level alongside you can help you spot these hidden items.
Activating Online Play
To activate online play, you'll have to stop at one of the stations you'll find in the overworld map, easily recognizable thanks to the satellite dish atop them. You can also turn online play off from these stations, should you decide to start.
