Despite the similarities, they're not zombies. In The Last of Us, infected humans are referred to as “the Infected.” The term “zombie” isn’t mentioned once.

Within a few days of exposure, the infected become hostile and attack any non-infected humans on sight, generally through clawing and biting. But remember, they're not zombies.
