Switch to Host 'Mario Party'-Style Demon Slayer Game
A Sneak Peek into the Upcoming Demon Slayer Video Game for Nintendo Switch
The highly acclaimed shonen anime series, Demon Slayer, is set to release a new video game for the Nintendo Switch. An image leak reveals a screenshot of the game's cover art featuring Nezuko hiding in a box. The game, instead of the usual anime fighting game, is a board game with a Mario Party-like experience.
Game Release Announcement
Although there was no initial announcement for a U.S. release, it's now confirmed by Sega that the game will be launched in 2024.
Gameplay and Features
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Mezase! Saikyou Taishi! (which loosely translates to “Aim to be the Strongest Soldier”) is a four-player party game. Here, players compete in various mini-games, similar to the popular Mario Party, substituting the iconic plumber with stylish samurais. As in Mario Party, players roll dice to navigate the board game, participating in fun challenges like guessing the box where Nezuko is hiding.
Night Cycle Missions
The game introduces a night cycle, switching its casual gameplay with missions requiring players to find and eliminate demons, echoing the anime's storyline.
Playable Characters
While Nezuko remains a supporting character in the game, players can take on roles of protagonists such as Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, and nine Hashira members.
A Look at Demon Slayer's Success
Despite the immense success of its movies, manga, and anime, and its consistent wins at Crunchyroll’s Anime Awards, Demon Slayer has only released one video game so far. The previous game, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles, was an arena fighter developed by CyberConnect2, known for their popular Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series.
Release Confirmation
Following Hinokami Chronicle’s English-language release by Sega, the company has confirmed an English release for Mezase! Saikyou Taishi! as well. In English, the game will be known as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Sweep the Board! This is exciting news for fans who love both Mario Party and Demon Slayer.
