Overwatch 2 Introduces New Tank Character: Mauga
In the recent BlizzCon, Overwatch 2 allowed players to trial run Mauga, the latest addition to the hero shooter's tank characters. Although his massive size and potent abilities suggested a powerful presence, he came across as surprisingly easy to defeat. This is not an ideal trait for a tank in Overwatch, and it appears that Blizzard is addressing this concern by tweaking Mauga's abilities before his debut in season 8.

Mauga's Test Phase: A Review
In a blog post on the official Overwatch 2 website, director Aaron Keller discussed the feedback received during Mauga’s test phase. A recurring observation was that Mauga seemed weak despite his large size. He appeared to crumble under even the slightest attack. The feedback suggested that a player could fire a round and a half into Mauga's head using Soldier: 76, and he would fall with little resistance.
Changes Incoming: Mauga's Overhaul
According to Keller, the team is working on significant changes to Mauga's abilities to make him more resilient. The improvements include reducing his head’s hitbox size, making it more challenging to land headshots, and converting 150 of his 650 health into Armor. Armor reduces damage by 30 percent compared to standard health, giving Mauga more time to counterattack before being defeated.
Revised Abilities: Overrun and Cardiac Overdrive
Changes will also be made to Mauga's abilities. 'Overrun,' similar to Reinhardt’s charge, will now reduce up to 50 percent damage while active instead of 30. 'Cardiac Overdrive,' which heals teammates as they inflict damage, will now offer more lifesteal for damage done.

The detailed changes include:
- Replacing a chunk of his health with armor.
- Reducing the size of his head’s hit volume.
- Increasing the damage reduction on Overrun.
