Amazon's Secret Level Expands Warhammer 40K Universe
Amazon and Games Workshop have unveiled exciting details about the new episode of their animated series, Secret Level, which is set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. This episode will be a direct sequel to the recently released game Space Marine 2. Secret Level is an anthology series with 15 standalone episodes, each inspired by a different game. Created by some of the minds behind Netflix's Love, Death & Robots, it will premiere on Prime Video on December 10.
The Legacy of Warhammer 40,000 Animation
Dave Wilson, the executive producer and supervising director, is renowned for his work on one of the first animated pieces of Warhammer, the iconic opening of the original real-time strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War. This opening, now 20 years old, is cherished by fans and is often regarded as one of the best Warhammer animations ever made.
Space Marine 2 Connection
The link between the Warhammer 40,000 Secret Level episode and Space Marine 2 is particularly intriguing. Games Workshop has confirmed the return of actor Clive Standen, who will reprise his role as Lieutenant Titus, the Ultramarines protagonist from the game.
Fans of Space Marine 2 will recognize Lieutenant Titus from the game's initial trailer. Games Workshop has confirmed that Clive Standen will once again lend his voice to Titus in this new animated film.
Plot Continuation
The animated episode is a sequel to Space Marine 2, directly following the game's campaign events. The game concludes with Titus's victory alongside Marneus Calgar, the Ultramarines' chapter master, against the forces of Chaos. Calgar presents Titus with a new helmet adorned with the imperial laurel and assigns him a mysterious mission, setting the stage for Secret Level's plot.
What to Expect
Secret Level will debut on Prime Video on December 10, featuring episodes based on various games, from Sony's Concord to Epic's Unreal. The Warhammer 40,000 episode will be part of the initial release, alongside seven others. The rest of the series will be available a week later, on December 17.
Future of Space Marine Series
As for the continuation of the Space Marine 2 story in video game form, Saber Interactive has been tight-lipped about the possibility of a DLC campaign. However, they have hinted at ideas for the inevitable Space Marine 3.
