Tekken's Harada Tried to Add Colonel Sanders, KFC Said No
Did you ever imagine the iconic Colonel Sanders from KFC throwing punches in a fighting game? Well, Katsuhiro Harada, the chief developer of Tekken, certainly did. He tried to make Colonel Sanders a playable character in the upcoming Tekken 8. Unfortunately, KFC wasn't too keen on the idea. Despite this setback, the Colonel has appeared in other games, like the quirky "I Love You, Colonel Sanders! A Finger Lickin' Good Dating Simulator." Let's dive into the fascinating world of Tekken 8 and its potential crossovers.
The Colonel Sanders Crossover That Almost Happened
Harada shared that he once approached KFC's headquarters in Japan to discuss using Colonel Sanders in Tekken 8. However, his proposal was met with resistance, and the idea never took off.
Interestingly, Colonel Sanders did make his way into the gaming world elsewhere. His appearance in the dating simulator game was a promotional move by KFC, released on Steam back in September 2019.
Why the Idea Was Rejected
Michael Murray, a member of the Tekken Project team, explained that KFC wasn't open to the idea of the Colonel fighting. This highlights the challenges often faced in such crossover discussions.
It seems KFC's decision was based on the nature of the Tekken series, which involves combat, something they might not have wanted associated with their brand icon.
Other Crossover Dreams
Fans of Tekken have also expressed interest in a potential crossover with Waffle House. However, Harada mentioned that such collaborations require approval from the brands involved, making it a complex process.
What's Next for Tekken 8?
While the Colonel Sanders dream may not have materialized, Tekken 8 fans have something exciting to look forward to. The game will soon introduce Heihachi Mishima as the third additional character.
This veteran fighter will join the roster as part of the upcoming free DLC titled "Unforgotten Echoes," set to release on October 4th.
