Final Fantasy XVI now available on PC
Final Fantasy XVI is finally available on PC! Square Enix has confirmed the launch dates for each region in a post on X/Twitter. The game officially released on September 17, 2024.
For those who haven't played it yet, FFXVI takes you into the vast world of Valisthea. This magical land is ruled by powerful elemental monsters known as Dominants. Players take on the role of Clive Rosfield to defeat these creatures.
Square Enix also released two DLCs, Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide, which must be purchased separately.
Launch Details
The game was initially exclusive to PlayStation 5. Despite early trailers suggesting a PC release, Square Enix opted for a six-month exclusivity deal with Sony.
Producer Naoki Yoshida had initially denied a PC version, saying, "No one ever talked about a PC version." However, he later confirmed that the game would indeed come to PC.
Why the Delay?
Yoshida explained that the team couldn't start working on the PC version until the PS5 release. This led to a lot of confusion and frustration among fans.
Finally, in August 2024, Square Enix announced the official PC release date.
Reasons for the Change
The main reason for this shift was poor sales of recent Square Enix titles like Foamstars and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The company decided to adopt a more aggressive multiplatform strategy.
- Final Fantasy XVI is now available on PC.
- DLCs Echoes of the Fallen and The Rising Tide are also out.
- The game was initially a PS5 exclusive.
- Producer Naoki Yoshida had initially denied a PC version.
- Poor sales led Square Enix to adopt a multiplatform strategy.
Future of the Franchise
Director Hiroshi Takai mentioned that future Final Fantasy games would likely be available on PC at launch. This is great news for PC gamers!
