Slay the Dragon: Why ReFantazio's Demo is a Must-Play

Metaphor ReFantazio doesn't hold back in its early stages. The fierce monsters and challenging first boss might make you feel overwhelmed. When you encounter a huge fire dragon, it’s easy to think it’s too much to handle. But if you love treasure, you shouldn't back down. This guide will help you defeat the fire dragon Mauna in the Nord Mines and reap the rewards.

Why Fight the Fire Dragon Mauna?

Ignoring the dragon is an option, but defeating it offers great rewards. You’ll get three treasures to sell for money and a powerful greatsword. Plus, you don’t need to grind levels to beat it. Just ensure your party’s HP is topped off and you have about 40-50 MP remaining.

Preparing for the Fight

There are two strategies to prepare your party for this battle:

Approach One: No Grinding

• Visit the merchant outside the Nord Mines rest area.
• Buy five Ice Chunks. Each inflicts 100 ice damage.
• Use these items to help your physical attackers.

Approach Two: Some Grinding

• Create a team of three rank two mages.
• Mages can cast Blizz, negating the need for Ice Chunks.
• Your main character as a Mage can restore MP by defeating or stunning enemies.

Party Composition

The default Seeker Archetype is weak to fire, making it a poor choice for this fight. Instead, consider using the Warrior Archetype, which resists fire damage. If you have a Warrior with the Heat Up passive, they’ll get a 10% Attack boost.

Ensure you have at least one Mage in your party at rank two. Using Blizz to inflict ice damage is crucial. A Mage-Fighter-Fighter team can handle the fight without grinding.

Battle Strategies

The Fire Dragon Mauna can inflict slashing, bashing, and fire damage. It’s weak to Ice, so use the Blizz spell or Ice Chunk items to deal massive damage and gain extra turns. Always start your turn with an ice attack and save non-ice moves for when you don’t have a half-turn icon lined up.

If you’re using a Seeker, end turns by Guarding to prevent the dragon from exploiting their fire weakness. Otherwise, the dragon could deal serious damage and get another turn. Guarding nullifies weaknesses and reduces damage.

If you’re not using a Seeker, have enough healing items to recover from damage. Use Medicine and Fairy Dust to heal your party as needed. Keep chipping away at the dragon’s health and keep your party healed.

The Reward

Defeating the Fire Dragon Mauna rewards you with 263 EXP, 210 AEXP, 1000 MAG, and 1000 Money. You’ll also get treasures like Amethyst, Grand Iron, Glossy Fur, and Onyx to sell for cash. The grand prize is the Dragon’s greatsword, a significant upgrade for any Warrior.
