The History of Paragon
A bit of background: Paragon, a third-person futuristic MOBA from Epic, was released via early access in 2016. Despite a loyal fan base, the game didn't achieve widespread success. Epic made some improvements post-launch, but then Fortnite happened. The company shifted its resources towards the popular battle royale game, which quickly became a phenomenon. In 2018, Epic announced the shutdown of Paragon. But there was a silver lining - all the assets created for Paragon were made freely available to all Unreal developers.
The Revival and Second Shutdown of Paragon
Several attempts were made to resurrect Paragon, including one by Netmarble that managed to secure permission to use the original name and brand. Unfortunately, Paragon: The Overprime, launched in December 2022, is also being shut down.
Netmarble's Announcement
On February 21, Netmarble, the studio behind Overprime, announced the game's shutdown on April 22, 2024. From today, players will no longer be able to purchase in-game content using real currency.
Message from the Overprime Team
In their farewell message, the Overprime team expressed gratitude for the "love and support" from players since 2022. They stated that after careful consideration, they concluded they wouldn't be able to provide a satisfactory service going forward. Therefore, the decision was made to end the service on April 22nd, 2024. The team expressed deep regret for the abrupt termination of the service and thanked players for their support.
Future of Paragon
Will Paragon be revived again? Maybe. But fans might be hesitant, fearing another shutdown. Show all 6 comments.
