A Deeper Look Into Gaming: The Good, The Bad, and The Frustrating

Let's delve into the fascinating world of gaming. Have you ever experienced a strong sense of deja vu while playing a game? I certainly did when I played GoW right after finishing TLOU Part 2.

While I appreciate the story and the attempt to reconcile with both Kratos and the gaming industry as a whole, I find the game itself to be just satisfactory.

Baldur’s Gate 3: A Rollercoaster of Emotions

After about 20 hours of gameplay, I have mixed feelings about Baldur’s Gate 3. I want to love it, but I'm not a fan of the interface on console, and it's even worse on PC.

The level of detail in the writing and characters is impressive. However, the actual game is quite frustrating. The so-called easy mode, which is supposed to let me enjoy the detailed story mode, is still challenging due to bad dice rolls.

Even though I've spent 45 hours playing this game, I still can't get into it. The role-playing aspect is fun, but the RNG heavy gameplay is quite unenjoyable.

Various Soulslikes and ‘Hard Games’: A Test of Patience

Games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring can be quite tedious. I don't play games to lose repeatedly. I'd rather enjoy the experience than spend hundreds of hours trying to overcome a difficult task.

I also don't understand the satisfaction some players derive from failing and eventually succeeding. For me, it's frustration followed by relief that I'm done with a tedious task.

Games that are "hard" like the Dark Souls series are not for me. I don't have the patience to "git gud". There's too much content out there to waste time trying to master one particular game.

Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games, and Other Open-World Crime Games: A Matter of Preference

As I've grown older, games by Rockstar seem to be trying too hard to be edgy. The Red Dead games were enjoyable, but I had to stop playing GTA V due to the writers' problematic portrayal of women.

Open-world crime games like GTA and Cyberpunk feel directionless to me. They rely on the player deriving pleasure from committing crimes, which is not my cup of tea.
