Rocket Racing in Fortnite

On December 8, Epic Games and Rocket League developer Psyonix launched Rocket Racing—a new competitive racing experience—within the popular battle royale game, Fortnite. It comes with its own quests and cosmetics. However, the high price tag of 4,000 v-bucks for a new in-game car has led to some backlash.

Price Revision of In-Game Cars

Responding to player feedback, Epic announced on December 14 that it had "fine-tuned" the prices on its in-game cars, reducing them by a considerable amount. Rare cars, which were previously 4000 v-bucks, will now cost 2500 v-bucks. Meanwhile, uncommon cars, which were 2500 v-bucks, will now be sold for 1500 v-bucks. Despite the reduction, some players still find these prices too high.

Refunds and Future Plans

Epic has pledged to refund the price difference to players who purchased the cars before the price drop within a week. The challenge lies in the digital currency system employed by Epic and other companies, which encourages players to buy more than they need, leading to a continuous cycle of purchases.

Concluding Thoughts

While it may not be accurate to claim these cars cost $40, it's a close enough approximation. The fact that such high prices are even considered is bewildering. Thankfully, it appears the company has heeded player feedback and reduced the prices.
