Twitter's Transformation into an "Everything App"

Twitter has initiated the process of transforming itself into an "everything app". This transformation will see Twitter incorporating new uses for artificial intelligence, peer-to-peer payment systems, and a heavy focus on advertising. However, this new version of Twitter will not support NFT profile pictures.

Remember NFTs?

Remember when NFTs were the big thing on the internet back in 2021? Those were wild times, when people were willing to spend huge amounts of money to "own" a jpeg. Well, you can't use those on your Twitter profile anymore.

Changes to Profile Avatars

At the same time as the announcement of new features, Twitter also quietly removed all options for using an owned NFT as a profile picture. Where once there was an explanation for how Premium subscribers could display their NFTs, now there is no mention of them at all.

Musk’s Vision for Twitter

Elon Musk's vision for Twitter is to transform the platform into an "everything app". This involves launching peer-to-peer payments and implementing AI for "more user utility". The platform claims to be a "video-first platform", with its "Immersive Video" feature boasting over 100 million users a day. However, despite Musk’s previous enthusiasm for NFTs, they are no longer a part of Twitter's long-term vision.

Changes to Twitter Premium

Previously, Twitter Premium subscribers were able to showcase their owned NFTs in a hex-shaped profile picture on their account. This feature has now been replaced with the ability to create a community on Twitter to connect with people who share similar interests.

The Decline of NFTs

It’s almost a year since Facebook shut down its own NFT efforts, and things have only gotten worse for the concept since. However, if you have already set up a hexagon profile picture on Twitter, it is safe for now. And please, keep it as long as you can - they’re a really useful service for letting others know who to mute on first contact.
