Unleashing Funko Fusion: A World of Endless Possibilities

Unleashing Funko Fusion: A World of Endless Possibilities

Funko Pop figures have always been a hit with their unique design. It was only a matter of time before a major game dedicated to this pop culture universe emerged. Enter Funko Fusion, developed by 1010 Games. The game has some good ideas, but its execution and optimization leave much to be desired.

The Funko Pop Phenomenon

Funko Pops started with themes from manga, comics, and video games. Over time, they expanded to include movies, TV series, music, celebrities, and sports. Today, you can find almost anything in Funko Pop form. The announcement of a game based on this license naturally piqued our interest.

Exploring Iconic Worlds

Funko Fusion takes you on an adventure through worlds like Jurassic Park, Battlestar Galactica, The Umbrella Academy, and Scott Pilgrim. With nearly twenty references and dozens of playable Pops, the game aims to appeal to multiple generations. On this front, 1010 Games did a good job.

LEGO Inspiration

Funko Fusion feels a lot like LEGO games. It features crossovers, unique plots, and familiar gameplay. This creates a nostalgic and unique atmosphere.

However, the game has several flaws. The choice of licenses is questionable, and there's no coherent storyline connecting them. The progression is very linear, requiring you to complete one universe before moving to another.

Gameplay and Combat

The gameplay is repetitive. Each universe has its own identity, but you often feel like you’re doing the same tasks with different skins. This lack of variety is disappointing given the potential for excitement and innovation.

Combat is a central element but suffers from several issues. The enemies are confusing, and your hero feels rigid. There's no significant difference between avatars, making it hard to stay engaged.

Exploration and Rewards

Exploration is also lackluster. The rewards don't justify the time spent solving puzzles or activating mechanisms. The game lacks diversity, making it feel repetitive quickly.

Technical Issues

Visually, Funko Fusion is impressive. The figures are faithfully reproduced, and the artistic direction is solid. However, the game suffers from performance issues, especially on PlayStation 5. Frequent frame rate drops and stuttering mar the experience.

Another downside is the lack of local co-op. You can only play online with friends who own the game, missing out on the fun of couch gaming.

Final Verdict

Funko Fusion had potential but falls short in execution. The game is filled with déjà-vu moments, lacks engaging gameplay, and suffers from technical issues. It's hard to recommend Funko Fusion unless you're a die-hard fan of the figures.
