Nintendo's Unique Approach: Avoiding the Performance Race

At a time when PlayStation and Xbox are battling it out in the hardware performance arena, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario and Zelda, wants Nintendo to stay out of the console wars.

In an interview with Famitsu, during the opening of the Nintendo Museum in Kyoto, he expressed that the museum is dedicated to both employees and fans of Nintendo. He emphasized that all generations are welcome to understand what Nintendo is all about.

Nintendo's Unique Approach

Miyamoto hopes visitors will understand Nintendo and not get involved in the "performance race" of gaming consoles. He believes technical specs are important, but Nintendo will focus on creating unique and original products using current technologies.

Nintendo aims to continue developing not just games but broader entertainment content. This approach differentiates Nintendo from its competitors.

Staying Out of the Performance Race

Miyamoto's comments are sincere but not surprising. Nintendo has long abandoned the race for power, unlike Sony and Microsoft, who are still focused on performance. Sony’s recent announcement of the expensive PS5 Pro is a testament to this.

Despite criticisms, Nintendo's strategy seems to be working well. The sales figures for the Switch are still excellent, and the next iteration, tentatively named Switch 2, is eagerly awaited.

Future Directions

Recently, Miyamoto mentioned that Nintendo prefers to follow a "different direction" from some of its industry peers regarding AI. This further shows Nintendo's commitment to carving its own path in the gaming world.
