Historic Female Baseball Player to Feature in Upcoming MLB The Show 24 Release
When the highly anticipated MLB The Show 24 launches next month, it will make history by featuring a groundbreaking character - a woman who made her own history in the world of baseball in 1953. This will be the first time the game series will include a playable female character.
Introducing Toni Stone - A Baseball Legend
As part of the "Storylines: Negro Leagues Season 2" mode, the official MLB The Show 24 account announced on February 14 that players will get to play as Toni Stone. Stone made history as the first woman to join a professional, major league baseball team. She joined the Indianapolis Clowns in 1953, breaking into the all-male Negro leagues at the age of 32. She had been playing baseball since she was 16.
Other Historic Players Joining The Roster
Stone isn't the only historic player coming to MLB The Show 24. Players will also get to play as Hank Aaron, famous for breaking Babe Ruth's all-time home run record in 1974, and home run king Josh Gibson.
Toni Stone's Historic Journey
Interestingly, Stone replaced Aaron at second base in Indianapolis when she joined the league in 1953, after Aaron had been signed by the Milwaukee Braves. After one season with the Clowns, she played for the Kansas City Monarchs in 1954. Hank Aaron reportedly referred to Stone as "a very good baseball player".
MLB The Show 24 Launch Details
MLB The Show 24 is set to launch on March 19 and will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. For those with Game Pass, it will be available on day one on Xbox. Despite the baseball sim series being developed by a PlayStation-owned studio, it will still be available on rival platforms, showcasing the unpredictable nature of video games in 2024.
