Netflix's The Witcher Adds Laurence Fishburne to the Cast
Netflix's live-action adaptation of The Witcher doesn't have a release date yet, but we do have exciting casting news. Laurence Fishburne, a legendary actor, will be joining the fantasy drama series as the vampiric barber-surgeon Emiel Regis. The news was officially announced by Netflix on Twitter on January 12.
Laurence Fishburne's Vast Acting Career
Fishburne's cool persona and steely delivery have brought to life a variety of characters in both films and games. He played Perry White in the 2013 superhero film Man of Steel, The Bowery King in the John Wick series, and his most famous character, Morpheus, in The Matrix games. He also portrayed Dr. Raymond Langston in two CSI-based games, among many other characters. Fishburne's acting chops are undeniable.
Laurence Fishburne Replaces Henry Cavill in The Witcher
Laurence Fishburne's introduction to The Witcher cast comes as Liam Hemsworth, star of The Hunger Games, steps into the role of Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill. With the writers’ and actors’ strikes of 2023, it will be some time before The Witcher returns to Netflix, but Fishburne joining the cast is an exciting development.
About Emiel Regis
Emiel Regis, the character Fishburne will be playing, first appears in the fifth book of The Witcher series, Baptism of Fire, by Polish fantasy author Andrzej Sapkowski. He becomes a main character until the novels end. Although mentioned in the games, the higher vampire doesn't actually show his face until The Witcher 3's 2015 expansion, Blood and Wine. This will be the fan-favorite character’s first appearance on the television show.
