Sony unveils the PS5 Pro priced at 799.99 euros
PlayStation 5 Pro Officially Announced by Sony
Sony has finally announced the worst-kept secret in gaming: the PlayStation 5 Pro. It will cost 799.99 Euros and will be released in November.
Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS5, confirmed the mid-generation upgrade during a technical presentation. He mentioned that Sony aims to offer gamers higher frame rates with the new console.
Key Features of the PS5 Pro
Hideaki Nishino, CEO of the Platform Business Group at Sony Interactive Entertainment, outlined the performance features of the PS5 Pro:
- Improved GPU: 67% more computing units and 28% faster memory, making game rendering 45% quicker.
- Advanced Ray Tracing: More dynamic light reflection and refraction, doubling or tripling the speed compared to the current PS5.
- AI-Powered Upscaling: Super Resolution Spectral PlayStation uses machine learning for super sharp image clarity.
The PS5 Pro will cost $699.99 / £699.99 / 799.99 Euros / 119,980 Yen. It will be available as a console without a disc drive, with the option to purchase a separate disc drive for 120 Euros.
Games Enhanced for PS5 Pro
Games that benefit from the PS5 Pro features will be labeled "PS5 Pro Enhanced." Some of these games include:
- Alan Wake 2
- Assassin's Creed: Shadows
- Demon's Souls
- Dragon's Dogma 2
- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
- Gran Turismo 7
- Hogwarts Legacy
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel's Spider-Man 2
- Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- The Crew Motorfest
- The First Descendant
- The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered
Games playable on the PS5 will also work on the PS5 Pro, using the same user interface and online community for multiplayer games.
Additional Features
The PS5 Pro includes the PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can improve the performance of over 8,500 PlayStation 4 games. It also enhances image quality for some PS4 games.
Current PS5 accessories will be compatible with the PS5 Pro, including the PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access Controller, Pulse Elite Wireless Headset, and Pulse Explore Wireless Earbuds.
The PS5 Pro will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation. Pre-orders start on September 26, 2024.
