Warner Bros. prioritizes sequel to Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy
Warner Bros. is working on a direct sequel to Hogwarts Legacy following its massive success.
Avalanche Software's Hogwarts Legacy sold over 24 million copies since its release in February 2023, generating more than a billion dollars in revenue. No wonder Warner Bros. wants a Hogwarts Legacy 2.
Warner Bros. Prioritizes Hogwarts Legacy Sequel
In an interview with Variety, Gunnar Wiedenfels, CFO of Warner Bros. Discovery, confirmed that the sequel is planned for the coming years. He emphasized that the successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of their top priorities.
Despite Hogwarts Legacy's success, Warner Bros. had a tough year with the disastrous launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League by Rocksteady. The game's failure reduced their revenue by $200 million.
Rocksteady's Current Focus
According to Bloomberg, Rocksteady is working on a director's cut of Hogwarts Legacy. They're also considering a return to single-player games after the live service game's failure. Recently, Rocksteady faced layoffs.
Warner Bros. Gaming Division
Despite the ups and downs, Wiedenfels stated that Warner Bros.' gaming division, which includes Mortal Kombat developer NetherRealm, remains a strategic asset for the company.
This week, Warner Bros. released Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which is not related to Hogwarts Legacy.

Warner Bros. is also working on:
- MultiVersus - a fighting game similar to Smash Bros.
- Batman: Arkham Shadow - a VR-exclusive game.
- Wonder Woman game - in development by Monolith Productions, the developer of Shadow of Mordor.
