Into the Light: Exciting Changes in Destiny 2's BRAVE Arsenal

End of last year, news broke about the postponement of Destiny 2's forthcoming expansion, The Final Shape, due to challenges and staff layoffs at Bungie. Originally scheduled for a February release, the expansion was officially deferred to June. This created a significant hiatus between the end of last year’s expansion and the eventual culmination of Destiny 2’s ongoing saga.
Destiny 2: Into the Light
In response to this gap, Bungie has arranged a pseudo-season of content, titled Destiny 2: Into the Light. This update, launching on April 9, will introduce new maps, modes, and weapons.
Into the Light’s weapons are worth highlighting, as they form what Bungie has christened the “BRAVE arsenal”. This collection consists of much-loved older weapons that have been revamped and improved for the current game state. However, when these were first revealed in the second of three planned developer streams earlier this week, they were received with a mix of anticipation and a touch of uncertainty.
The BRAVE Arsenal Rollout
The uncertainty stemmed from Bungie's announcement that it would release half of the BRAVE arsenal at launch, with the other half being gradually released weekly. According to the initial plan, players who start playing Into the Light at launch wouldn’t be able to access the full arsenal for a full six weeks.
From years of being part of the Destiny 2 community, it's clear that nothing should obstruct players and their loot. The gradual release of weapons, especially considering the number of fan favorites whose value has depreciated over the years, was not well-received. Early access to the full arsenal would allow players more time to earn special limited-time variants in Into the Light’s new PvE Onslaught mode.
Bungie Responds to Player Feedback
Bungie's original schedule would significantly reduce this time for the weapons releasing later. Many players voiced their concerns and displeasure to Bungie, which, despite its errors, is often receptive to feedback and fairly quick to respond to it. The team is now somewhat reversing its course.
A thread on the Destiny 2 Team Twitter account (which shares insights and feedback directly from the developers) addressed fans’ concerns and announced that Bungie would be adjusting the planned weapon rollout. Instead of six weeks, the schedule has now been reduced to three weeks, meaning the team will be releasing two weapons a week after launch. On this timeline, players will now be able to acquire the entire BRAVE arsenal by the end of April, rather than late May.
