Joel and Ellie Return: A Glimpse 5 Years After The Last of Us
HBO has finally unveiled the official trailer for Season 2 of The Last of Us. Fans of the Naughty Dog video game series will recognize many of the environments and characters. The trailer was released on September 26, a significant date for The Last of Us community. In the games, September 26 is known as "Outbreak Day," marking the day the Cordyceps virus began to devastate society. In our world, this day is celebrated as The Last of Us Day.
What to Expect in Season 2
HBO also released an official summary for Season 2: "After five years of peace following the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie's past catches up with them, dragging them into conflict and a more dangerous, unpredictable world."
This summary hints at the adaptation of events from The Last of Us Part 2. The showrunner Craig Mazin has previously mentioned that it might take more than one season to cover the sequel's storyline.
Returning and New Cast Members
Season 2 will see the return of Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. New cast members include:

The trailer offers a first look at Kaitlyn Dever as Abby. It also features the song "Future Days" by Pearl Jam, which Joel plays for Ellie in The Last of Us Part 2.
