New Sonic Central Highlights: What You Need to Know
Are you a Sonic the Hedgehog fan? If so, 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting year. From game updates to new merchandise and crossovers, there's plenty to look forward to. SEGA recently held a Sonic Central stream to update fans on various projects. If you missed it, don't worry—we've got all the highlights for you!
Mobile Game Updates
The stream kicked off with updates on Sonic mobile games. Here's what's new:
- Sonic Rumble: This Fall Guys-esque party game looks much better now than in its first trailer.
- Sonic Dash: New characters are coming!
- Sonic Forces: The mobile version is getting updates.
- Sonic Dream Team: Shadow is joining the team.
Chao Tales
SEGA announced Chao Tales, an eight-episode animated series. The series will follow Sonic as he visits a Chao garden and takes care of the quirky little aliens. It's a must-watch for any Sonic fan!
Crossover Hour
Several crossover promotions were highlighted:
- Roblox: Play as Sonic and fight Metal Sonic.
- Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble: New Sonic-themed skins.
- TwoPoint Museum: Sonic-themed cosmetics to create a unique museum experience.
Merchandise Galore
From games to merchandise, SEGA showcased a lot:
- Sonic Lego Sets: Featuring Shadow, Knuckles, Rouge, Sonic, Tails, and more.
- New Shadow Toy: Based on Shadow Generations, complete with Sephiroth wings.
- First 4 Figures: A new statue based on Shadow's winged appearance.
Topgolf Collaboration
Topgolf is adding a digital golf game based on Sonic. Play as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy in obstacle courses based on your golf swings. Coming soon to locations around the country!
Sonic x DC Comics
SEGA announced a long-term partnership with DC Comics. The collaboration kicks off with a five-part comic series starting in March 2025. Characters include:
- Knuckles as Superman
- Amy as Wonder Woman
- Sonic as The Flash
- Silver as Green Lantern
- Tails as Cyborg
Expect more merchandise and crossovers throughout 2026.
Sonic x Shadow Generations
A new story trailer for Sonic x Shadow Generations was revealed. Shadow will face villains like Black Doom and Mephiles. The game launches on October 25.
Sonic x Shadow Generations: Dark Beginnings
Leading up to the game's release, SEGA is rolling out the Dark Beginnings animated miniseries. This three-episode series will follow Shadow's origin story. Episodes release on September 25, October 3, and October 10.
Gerald Robotnik's Journal
A retro commercial for the Gerald Robotnik journal was shown. This artbook will be included in day-one physical copies of Sonic x Shadow Generations. It documents Shadow's creation from Dr. Gerald Robotnik's perspective.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie
Not much was revealed about the new movie. However, a short hype piece featured creatives discussing their excitement for the film, which premieres on December 20.
