Meet Venture: Overwatch 2's New DPS Hero

During the What’s Next panel, Venture’s abilities were showcased. Venture’s drill-like gun allows them to burrow under the battlefield, dealing damage as they emerge. They are also invulnerable while digging, offering potential for avoiding enemy ults.

Venture’s primary weapon is a controlled explosive that detonates on impact. Though Blizzard hasn't revealed their ultimate yet, Venture’s dash ability adds some mobility to their kit.

Venture’s Backstory

The second Canadian hero after Sojourn, Venture is an archaeologist, hence the drill. Venture is also the first non-binary hero to join the Overwatch 2 roster, using they/them pronouns.

Increasing Queer Representation in Overwatch 2

Blizzard’s inclusion of queer heroes like Venture and Lifeweaver, who are non-binary and pansexual respectively, is becoming more frequent. This comes after Tracer and Soldier: 76 were revealed to be gay long after the original Overwatch launch in 2016.

Blizzard confirmed Pharah as a lesbian and Baptiste as bisexual during the game’s first Pride event. It seems Blizzard is aiming to establish a more inclusive foundation for the series. With Venture's addition in 2024 as the 40th hero, there will be six confirmed queer characters on the roster.
